Esther Day

This post is quite irrelevant to my travels, but I feel it is necessary to write about.

So the 3rd of August is Esther Day.
Esther Day was created by a girl named Esther Earl, the incredible person who inspired The Fault in our Stars. She passed away, due to cancer in 2010, but left a story to be told.

Before her death John Green ( youtuber and author ) told Esther that he and his brother Hank ( youtuber ) wanted to celebrate her birthday, and that their youtube video on her birthday, would be about what ever she wanted. She decided that she wanted it to be a day to celebrate love for family and friends. So ever since 2010, the 3rd of August has become a day to remind us to verbalise our love for our family and friends, and say the words " I love you " to those important people in our lives that we forget to tell.

“Esther Day is the day where we think ‘who do I love who I have trouble saying I love you to.'
Not some romantic interest, that’s just using Esther Day as an excuse to tell someone you love them, that you already want to tell them… no.
I mean family, or platonic friends, which for me is even harder than family.”
    - John Green

So please do not forget to tell people that you love them, no matter how hard it is. It is important to cherish love while you have it. Not only the romantic love, which is quite overpowering in society now days, and we forget the different kinds of love. Our family and friends who have been with us through thick and thin. Those who have seen us when we are tired and at breaking point, and shared our happiest moments. Those who you love, and love you unconditionally, and infinitely.

Esther's book ( This star won't go out ) is a must read, and truly insightful and inspiring. It made me feel  extremely happy and grateful for life, and at extremely sad that this girl was taken too soon. The story is a collection of her diary entries, aswell as notes from her family. Her story is simply incredible, and worth taking the time to read.
