Travelling thoughts

So far, there are many things I have noticed whilst I've been travelling.

The people:
Travelling with Diana and Olivia who already have contacts in Germany, I am constantly being introduced to new people. That used to be quite a daunting thing for me, and I found it quite nerve wracking. Now my perspective has changed, I love meeting new people and learning from/with them. I think that everyone, no matter what age, has something to offer this world. Meeting people is one of those amazing things that, now I look back on it, I regret being shy.

Beggars:
I find it so extremely hard to carry on walking when there is a old man sitting on the side of the footpath, his frail hands outstretched as he quietly begs for coins. Its hard to carry walking when their drained eyes search you for help, for anything really. Its hard to know that hundreds of people have passed this man, all avoiding him. Yet they stare at him, making him feel ashamed, as they mutter to the person next to them, with jewels on throats and phones in palms. I know that you are meant to keep walking, because giving to the beggars is the quickest way to lose all of your money, but it shows me how hard some people have it. It makes me feel fortunate for the shoes that are on my feet, the bag on my shoulder and the apple in my hand. It makes me grateful for MY life, and having MY life. Not being jealous of others, and thinking they are perfect and I am not ( and all that other crap that society sells ). I feel grateful for the loving family I am blessed with and the wonderful friends who support me and have helped me grow as a person. I know there are times when you would rather have that persons life, but it is healthy to love yourself, and love life. Slow down and remember the important things.

Eating new food:
Being in a country very different from New Zealand, I am constantly experiencing the different culture, and different food. I am thoroughly enjoying all the German food, the meat, the bread and especially the pretzels!!! I think that it is so cool that I am able to be exposed to such different things so early in life, and seeing the world at such a young age!

The History:
Recently I have been to many places in Germany, which are rich with history and woven with stories. I am quite a geek when it comes to this, but I love learning about history. Its not enough to go through a church or a castle, and not know the history all around. I also love ( this will sound strange ) things that make me think. Like books, with underlying meanings that you have to dig for, or artwork, that you have to search for the story. So walking through churches with stain glass windows that tell stories, and artwork that has been treasured through generations, I can't help but want to know "who, when, what, how and why".

I think that now I have a different perspective on life. I've seen more than just what little New Zealand has to offer and it really opens your mind, to all the wonderful things that life has to offer.
